TITLE:
Microsoft Windows 8 Touch and Pen calibration tool runs in Landscape mode only

SYMPTOM:
When the user launches the Touch and Pen calibration tool in the Portrait mode by selecting the Calibrate button for Touch or Pen input in the Control Panel table PC Settings applet on Microsoft Windows 8, the calibration screen is displayed in Landscape mode. This will result in part of the window not being visible and then the calibration cannot be completed.

AFFECTED CONFIGURATIONS:
ThinkPad

AFFECTED SYSTEMS:
ThinkPad Helix, X1 Helix, X1 Helix 3G
ThinkPad Tablet 2
ThinkPad Twist S230u

SYSTEM IS CONFIGURED WITH:
Touch panel
Stylus pen

OPERATING SYSTEMS:
Microsoft Windows 8

LIMITATIONS:
This is the design of Microsoft Windows 8.

The inbox calibration tool should not be used as the system should already be pre-calibrated for optimum performance.

SOLUTION:
The user should touch anywhere on the calibration screen multiple times until the calibration will complete eventually. Then, select “No” when a message to save the calibration data is displayed. The data is not saved.

WORKAROUND:
The user can change the display mode to Landscape prior to launching the calibration tool. The screen orientation can be changed by launching the Control Panel Display applet and selecting "Adjust resolution". Under Orientation, the user can switch between Portrait and Landscape.
