Reinstalling TCP/IP in Windows

How do I reinstall TCP/IP in Windows?

  • These instructions are recommended for advanced users who are familiar with modifying networking components.
  • You must log on to Windows with an account with computer administrator privileges.
To reinstall TCP/IP:
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Type: control panel
  3. As you type, results will appear and change. Select Control Panel.
  4. Under Network and Internet, click the View network status and tasks link.
  5. In the left column, click the Change adapter settings link.
  6. Right-click your network connection.
  7. From the drop-down list, select Properties.
  8. If you are reinstalling the TCP/IP for a modem connection, select the Networking tab.
  9. Click the Install... button.
  10. Select Protocol.
  11. Click the Add... button.
  12. Click the Have Disk... button.
  13. In the Copy manufacturer's files from: text box, type: c:\windows\inf
  14. Click OK.
  15. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  16. Click OK.
  17. Restart your computer.
